There would be chance of finding some second-hand book stores which are a huge draw for book lovers globally.

GETTING AROUND

The best way to get around the island is via " TUK-TUK " , an auto rickshaw that is one of the chief modes of transport, especially as a vehicle for hire. It is a motorized version of the traditional rickshaw or velotaxi, a small three-wheeled cart driven by a person, and is related to the cabin cycle.

THE WEATHER
Often described as tropical and humid for the majority of the country during most of the year. The area of Thailand north of Bangkok has a climate determined by three seasons whilst the southern peninsular region of Thailand has only two.

In Northern Thailand, the seasons are clearly defined. Between November and May the weather is mostly dry, however this is broken up into the periods November to February and March to May. The later of these two periods has the higher relative temperatures as although the northeast monsoon does not directly effect the northern area of Thailand, it does cause cooling breezes from November to February. The other northern season is from May to November and is dominated by the southwest monsoon, during which time rainfall in the north is at its heaviest.

The Southern region of Thailand really has only two seasons -- the wet and the dry. These seasons do not run at the same time on both the east and west side of the peninsular. On the west coast the southwest monsoon brings rain and often heavy storms from April through to October, whilst on the east coast the most rain falls between September and December. Overall, the southern parts of Thailand get by far the most rain with around 2,400 millimetres every year, compared with the central and northern regions of Thailand, both of which get around 1,400 millimetres.

BEST TIME TO VISIT
From November to March, when it is not as humid as the rest of the year. The average temperature ranges between 24 - 32 degrees Celcius during these months. The hottest months are in April to May, where temperatures soar to rangess of 27 - 36 degrees Celcius.

PLACES OF INTEREST
WAT KHAO LAD ~

South of Hua Hin's main beach, Khao Takiap (meaning Chopstick Hill) which is covered by mini chedis and shrines. Wat Khao Lad is fronted by a massive 20m tall standing Buddha facing the sea.

KHAO SAM ROI YOT NATIONAL PARK ~

The entrance to this park, whose name translates to "300 mountain peaks", is about 50 km south of Hua Hin.

The landscape features savanna-like plains and steep limestone cliffs at the seashore. Some of the plains have recently been misused to dig ponds for destructive shrimp farming. But the park still provides a rich experience of nature with good animal watching as it is home to several rare species. Near the coast or from a boat you may be lucky to spot an Irrawady Dolphin passing by.

KAENG KRACHAN NATIONAL PARK ~

Kaeng Krachan is Thailand's largest national park covering about 3000 sq km, almost half of Petburi Province. The park gets some of the heaviest monsoon rainfall in all of Thailand which makes the rainforest particularly abundant in places. There are also savanna-like grasslands, mountains, steep cliffs, caves, waterfalls, and two rivers which are suitable for rafting.

Animals living in the park include wild elephants, deer, tigers, bears, and gibbons.
The park is ideal for hiking and camping. A resort offers "floatel" accommodation at the La-U Reservoir.

PA LA-U WATERFALL ~

An excursion to Pa La-U waterfall is a must for every visitor to Hua Hin and Cha-am. It's about 68 km from Hua Hin by road, while the last stretch of the journey is a dirt-road requiring some driving skill. Many local tour operators offer trips to the waterfall which can get quite crowded on weekends.

Depending on the season swarms of butterflies can be seen in the area.

FOOD
BAAN ITSARA ~
Located at 7 Th Naebkhehars, Hua Hin, for aficionados of the ocean's produce. Considered by some to be one of the best seafood places in town, this restaurant has tables right on the ocean and a small imported-wine list. The tiger prawns in sweet basil sauce are a perennial favourite.

BRASSERIE DE PARIS ~
A French chef serves up real French food (crab Hua-Hin is a speciality) in this lovely, light and airy restaurant, located at 3 Th Naresdamri.

CHAO LAY RESTUARANT ~
Probably the best of the wharf restaurants, 15 Th Naresdamri, this place certainly manages to fill its two levels of pier seating. There's a veritable fish market out front where you can choose your catch of the day, and a small army of waiters to deliver the end product.

CHATCHAI MARKET ~
Th Dechanuchit, Hua Hin
This colourful and inexpensive market at Th Dechanuchit, is one of Hua Hin's major attractions. Vendors gather nightly in the centre of town (off Th Phetkasem) to fry, steam, grill, parboil or bake fresh gulf seafood for hordes of hungry Thais. Must try the famous roti Hua Hin served at this market, a delicious snack made with special dough and filled with sweets such as strawberries, custard or raisins.

HUA HIN THAI SHOW ~
Just off the main night-market street, 67/2 Dechanuchit, this open-air Thai restaurant draws in the crowds with free nightly performances. The food's good with a nice mood lighting and tables set around Thai-style pagodas.

MAHA RAJA ~
With gaudy décor, this place, 25 Th Naresdamri, provides officious service typical of Indian restaurants in Thailand. The dining room has a pink theme throughout with ostentatious chandeliers, and solid Indian cuisine at respectable prices.

MONSOON ~
Beautiful Monsoon, 62 Th Naresdamri, feels like a far-flung railway station deep within IndoChine. With large leather chairs plucked directly from a posh lodge and the menu offers imported teas and a mix of regional and foreign cuisine.

SASI RESTUARANT ~
Located very near to the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Th Khao Takiap, South of Hua Hin. Sasi is a pleasant option for a traditional Thai dinner accompanied by a performance featuring Thai theatre and dance.

WORLD NEWS COFFEE ~
Th Naresdamri, Hua Hin
This Starbucks-esque at Th Naresdamri, a popular breakfast venue is run by the nearby Hilton. Breakfasts and bagels are proffered here, as are various coffee drinks. With an excellent selection of newspapers and magazines to digest with your morning brew. Internet access are also available.

NIGHT LIFE
BERNIE'S ~
A British Golf Lover Owner runned sports bar located at Hua Hin's Bazaar, Th Damnoen Kasem, with loads of info on swinging a club in the area.

CRAWFORD'S ~
An Irish bar, 5 Th Phunsuk, has imported everything directly from Ireland. Two wood-finished levels of air-conditioned, Guinness-drinking comfort. Not too rowdy crowds and super friendly expat 'drink with your mates' mood here, with occasional sports match on one of its many televisions.

HUA HIN BREWING COMPANY ~
Located at Th Naresdamri, has a maze of barges, decks and masts often with live music and attracts a mixture of hotel guests, expats, tourists and some local 'ladies of the night'. It's not sleazy, as it's attached to one of the classiest hotels in town.

The corner location, 3 Th Phunsuk, this popular place serves meals with an indoor seating around a slick, modern white bar (in the comfort of air-con) or sit on the outside patio, which has a giant projection screen.
